Anne Arundel school bus routes for upcoming school year released

Bus pickup and drop-off times and locations were posted Monday for the 2022-2023 school year by Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

This school year there will be fewer bus stops, the result of years of work completed by contractor Primastic Services, Inc. to find more efficiency in how students are transported to school. A detailed list was posted on the AACPS website.

In a news release Monday, AACPS said stops have been relocated or consolidated as part of the effort. The system suggests that families look up their child’s bus stop and practice the new route from home before the start of the school year.

The system is expecting to start the school year with about 50 vacancies among bus drivers, which it said is related to a nationwide shortage of drivers with commercial licenses. Routes without drivers will be identified Aug. 22, the system said, and that list will then be updated each weekday. Similar to the previous school year, the system will maintain an online outage list.

The work to find more efficient routes was completed as part of a planned shift in school start times. This year start times for older students will move later, and for younger students will move earlier, as experts including the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that middle and high schoolers start no earlier than 8:30 a.m.

County Executive Steuart Pittman and the County Council have expressed concerns and suggested delaying the change in start times because of bus driver staffing concerns.

The first day of school is Aug. 29.
