The Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News is giving away pottery art created by its students.

"(The) Studio Art School potters have donated approximately 50 clay pots that will be strategically placed around the grounds of the Peninsula Fine Arts Center for passersby and visitors to discover," a press release says. "The pots serve not only as invitations to view the showcase, but as goodwill gifts for community members to keep."

The scavenger hunt and give away is, in part, to promote the The Studio Art School Showcase, which will be on display at the art center June 1 through July 7.

Visitors can look for the pottery pieces around the outside grounds of the arts center. If they find a piece, they are invited to keep it.

"It’s first-come, first-served and there are a limited amount, but the hope is that it will simultaneously promote the clay community and spread goodwill," says Amber Kennedy, a spokeswoman for the center. "Some have already been retrieved and more will be placed tomorrow with the goal they will all be found by the time the show opens June 1."

The Peninsula Fine Arts Center is located at 101 Museum Drive in Newport News. For more information about the exhibit, visit
