Boy, 12, shot and seriously wounded in Roseland neighborhood

A 12-year-old boy has become the latest victim of violent crime following a shooting Saturday afternoon in the Roseland neighborhood.

The attack happened about 4:35 p.m. in the 100 block of West 111th Place on the Far South Side.

An assailant opened fire, hitting the boy in the right side of the back, above the hip, and he was taken by fire department ambulance to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was listed in serious to critical condition, police and fire officials said.

Earlier, one man was killed and another man wounded during separate shootings that happened within 30 minutes of each other.

The fatal shooting happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. in the 5500 block of South Perry Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood, police said.

A 40-year-old man was inside an apartment when an unknown person shot him in the chest and leg. He was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Shortly before 2 p.m., a 25-year-old man was exiting a vehicle in front of his house when a SUV pulled up and somebody shot him in the 3500 block of South Mozart Street in the Brighton Park neighborhood, police said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with wounds to his left arm and lower back. Police said his condition had stabilized.

No one was in custody.

Overnight Friday into Saturday, at least 22 others were wounded during shootings.
