Wilmette 'Booklub'

Our "booklub"

started about six years ago. We all lived within a few blocks in Wilmette.

We really enjoyed

"Small Island" by Andrea Levy. We were appalled by the treatment of black soldiers in Britain during World War II. The author's descriptions helped us feel their anguish.

We did not like

"Freedom" by Jonathan Franzen. We could not relate to the characters and did not care what happened to them.

One of our best discussions

was on "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. Our group was so divided; members either hated it or loved it, and all had very strong feelings as to why.

We'd love to meet

Harper Lee, author of "To Kill a Mockingbird." We would ask her why didn't she write any other books.

We are currently reading

"The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot
