The Havre de Grace Independence Day Commission on Thursday announced it will cancel all planned Fourth of July activities this year, following suit with Bel Air and Darlington.
“This was not an easy decision for us to make. However, in accordance with local and state officials, and in accordance with Governor Hogan’s Safer at Home Advisory, cancelling this year’s parade, concerts, and fireworks is the only responsible and safe decision to make in the face of this year’s global pandemic,” according to a statement. “Believe us — we are as disappointed as you are.”
The events for Havre de Grace’s 2020 Independence Day celebration, included a five-day carnival in June followed by the annual downtown parade, concerts and fireworks show on July 5.
On Wednesday, the Bel Air Independence Day Committee announced the cancellation of their parade and fireworks. Darlington has announced the cancellation of its festivities, scheduled for June 27, earlier this month.
