Anne Arundel County expands pop-up testing to five days a week; 111 new coronavirus cases confirmed

Anne Arundel County is launching more daily pop-up community testing sites this week to help contain the coronavirus’ spread. The pop-up clinics were previously only taking place on Mondays.

“We are excited about this ... (it) extends our reach into the communities,” said County Health Officer Dr. Nilesh Kalyanaraman.

A calendar of available testing sites in Anne Arundel can be found on the county’s COVID-19 website. Pop-up testing sites will have varied locations.

The increased testing comes as Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman has kept the county in Stage Two reopening. Pittman has been criticized for being too cautious and hurting local businesses. He has said previously his decisions are about limiting coronavirus infections and deaths.

Anne Arundel County confirmed 111 new coronavirus cases and no new deaths Tuesday, according to state health data. Tuesday’s new case count is the highest since July 24 when the county confirmed 114 new cases. Maryland confirmed 599 new coronavirus cases and 10 deaths.

Numbers released Tuesday morning show the county now has 9,302 confirmed cases and 229 deaths. Another 11 people may have died from the disease, but a lab test was never performed. Maryland now has 1167,245 confirmed cases and 3,706 deaths.

As the county tracks those new infections, they are finding many cases are occurring due to family gatherings, Kalyanaraman said. He is advising people to take usual precautions around family members including wearing masks and social distancing.

Across Maryland, at least 2,245,666 tests have been conducted, an increase of more than 19,000 in the last 24 hours, bringing the statewide seven-day average rate of positive cases to 3.62%. Anne Arundel’s rate of positive cases is 4.1%.

Statewide, 371 people are currently hospitalized with 93 patients in the ICU and 278 patients in acute care.

ZIP codes

Here is an alphabetical breakdown of the number of cases in each ZIP code in Anne Arundel County as of Tuesday. State numbers are in parentheses.

ZIP codes that overlap more than one county are in italics. The state numbers also account for cases at congregate living facilities in those ZIP codes, which the county numbers do not include.

The county has said that they remove cases from this data as they determine they are from congregate housing, such as nursing homes or retirement communities, which may also account for discrepancies.
