Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has a private Gmail account, but the amount of official business she does on it is—according to the Law Department—de minimis. On July 30, City Paper asked for the mayor's work-related emails on her private Gmail account after receiving a tip about it. The tipster told us the account was set up for just a few SRB confidants. We wanted to see what they were saying on this back channel during the heat of the Freddie Gray unrest, so we requested the emails she sent or received on it from April 23 through the 28, inclusive.
Obviously, we were hoping for a Hillary-esque cache of Highly-Classified Gotcha.
Late yesterday, we received the response from Jeffrey Hochstetler, assistant solicitor.
There are exactly four emails. Three of them are from Mark Dennis, the mayor's official photographer, with photos attached. They are titled "Collage--Spring Clean," "Collage for Facebook," and "Collage--April 28--Morning."
The photos were not included in the disclosure, only thumbnails.
He introduces himself as the head of Celebrity Protection, "based in Baltimore."
"We definitely respect you and your mission," Rico, who does not include his last name in the email, writes the mayor, who he addresses by her first name. "I would love to donate my security services, and serve on your team as your personal Bodyguard."
There is no company by that name listed in state records. City Paper reached out to Rico because . . . how could we not? We'll update if he gets back to us.
