The Senator Theatre announced a summer revivals series, with a focus on movies that'll look especially great on their 40-foot screen—from big, loud crowd-pleasers to visually stunning arthouse fare and a number of them on 35mm to boot. The lineup in its entirety is: "Blue Velvet," "King Kong" (1933), "Dial M For Murder" (in 3-D), "Ran," "The Day The Earth Stood Still," "Big Trouble In Little China," "Invasion of the Body Snatchers, "Richard III," "Jaws," Jaws 3-D," "Lawrence Of Arabia," "The Incredible Shrinking Man," "Serial Mom," "Shane," "Blood Simple," "Blazing Saddles," "Planet Of The Apes," "Koyaanisqatsi," "The Fantastic Mr. Fox," "Dr. No," "Contempt," and "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

Also screening, the week before "Raiders Of The Lost Ark," is a dual screening of "Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation," a 1989 shot-for-shot remake of the 1981 Indiana Jones classic made by a bunch of kids in Mississippi, and a documentary about the remake, "Raiders: The Story Of The Greatest Fan Film Ever Made."

This is a more consistent adjustment to the Senator's semi-frequent revival screenings and a counter to the more esoteric revivals the Charles has going on. For whatever it's worth, we'd recommend at least checking out John Carpenter's cuckoo kung-fu action comedy "Big Trouble In Little China," the tepidly camp "Jaws 3-D," stalwart Western "Shane," semi-goofy Coen Brothers noir "Blood Simple," stoner classic "Koyaanisqatsi," and Wes Anderson's warm, weird "The Fantastic Mr. Fox." But there's lots more to be excited here too, especially if you're looking to revisit some classics, fill in a few holes in your viewing log, or introduce someone to "film" proper—it's essentially a Film 101 class, really.
