Sept. 2-4: Baltimore Comic Con

Sept. 2-4: Baltimore Comic Con
(J.M. Giordano)

As other comic book conventions spiral into the realm of straight up entertainment fests with movie and TV premiers, actors and actress tables, and general non-comic related junk,  Baltimore's three-day comic book convention remains true to its original mission of connecting comic fans with artists and writers in the comic book sphere. Now in its 17th year, the Baltimore con is hosting some pretty iconic names in the comic industry this time around like Neal Adams ('70s Batman), Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez ('70s Justice League), Louise Simonson (Power Pack), and controversial artist Howard Chaykin. The con also welcomes a lot of local artists whose work you can pick up pretty cheaply. Our favorite part of the con, though, is definitely the arrival of the area's diverse selection of cosplayers. Yeah. Baltimore cosplayers really go all out for their love of their respective characters. If we had to pick one day to go, it would be on Sunday for the costume contest finale and all the sales on the con floor. It's very kid-friendly with an overall chill atmosphere, unlike the cons in other big cities like San Diego and New York. September 2-4, Baltimore Convention Center, 1 W. Pratt St., baltimorecomiccon.com, tickets not on sale at press time. (J.M. Giordano)
