Earlier this summer, Annex Theater and Acme Corporation co-produced a play based on Gertrude Stein's novella "The World Is Round," ostensibly a children's book about a young girl finding her place in the world. As CP's Maura Callahan noted in her review, the book is filled with lyrics as well as narrative prose, leaving a natural space for musical accompaniment. The theater groups tapped Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak and Flock of Dimes to create original music for the production. And now, if you missed out on seeing the show, you can hear Wasner's demos of the songs and some instrumental demos that didn't make the cut. Unsurprisingly, they're pretty great.
