The thrashing, sweaty Baltimore noise rock four piece Dope Body is calling it quits after a nine year-run, and they're going out with two shows planned for Baltimore.
The first is at Metro Gallery on May 13 with Girl Crush, 83 Cutlass, and Guerilla Toss. A night later, they'll be at Floristree with Earth Eater and Chain and the Gang.
In 2014, I sat down with the members of Dope Body and Roomrunner to talk about their new releases and the life of an indie band grinding it out on the road. For me, the conversation was enlightening, and it proved to be a good road map to anyone out there thinking of starting a band.
Two years before that, Bret McCabe talked with the band about finding the "next level of its bruising sound."
UPDATE: On its Facebook page, the band posted the flier along with the message: "This is The End. Thank you for all the support over the years, it's been a wild ride..."
UPDATE TWO: Guitarist Zach Utz offered the following comment: "I would say we have all become increasingly interested in our own personal endeavors and we've subsequently gotten to a point where we feel unable to devote enough time to Dope Body to develop it into anything other than what it's already been. We all agreed we would rather kind of burn out than fade away and it feels fitting to call it quits rather than just let it linger in this vague hiatus sort of mode.
