Baltimore has always been a seafood town. And thanks to restaurants like Alma Cocina Latina, we've evolved beyond the traditional crab cakes on crackers and baskets of steamed shrimp to ceviche and other marine life well beyond the Chesapeake. Alma, located in the Can Company, is the only restaurant we know of on the East side that brings the amazing tastes of Venezuela to the table. The Ceviche Mixto, with its octopus carpaccio, lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams, royal bass, and scallops marinated in leche de tigre, is one of our all-time favorites and well worth the trek to Canton. While the menu sports a pretty extensive selection of Venezuelan meat dishes, Alma's "Del Mar" menu is a pescatarian's dream. We recommend the tuna tartare or the Tiradito, a swordfish dish cured in-house. Baltimore's East side is rife with a fantastic array of restaurants offering food from Mexico to Central and South America, and it can now add a full-on Venezuelan eatery to the culinary landscape.
