Even though Edgar Allan Poe was born elsewhere, Baltimore owns the juicier part of his life—the tragic, tortured part. Last year's immersive "The Mesmeric Revelations! Of Edgar Allan Poe" plucked characters from the darkest corners of the poet's psyche—including his mother, an occultist lover, and a fictional detective—for intimate one-on-one interactions with audience members in a beautifully designed set in Enoch Pratt's West Monument Street mansion. Thanks to the show's creators Glenn Ricci, Ursula Marcum, Susan Stroupe, and Michele Minnick, and the cast and crew for bringing Baltimore a fresh take on their old celebrity. And thumbs up to the Maryland Historical Society for partnering with such an unknown quantity.
