Late last year, Wayne Davis, owner of the Paradox, announced via Facebook that the Baltimore’s premier dance club—and one of the best in the world, really—would close in 2016. What followed was a series of last or close-to-last or nearly final shows that stretched all through the summer, giving us all a night to appreciate the club one last time and then one last time again and again. But who’s complaining? The 25-year-old club, a go-to for club music and house music, and a singular space that catered to the 40-and-over and 18-and-under crowds, deserved at least a half-dozen goodbyes. That it will become a new club called Hammerjacks, but will seemingly be part of that whole Horseshoe Casino entertainment clusterfuck happening in that part of town, is disappointing; but at least we got to dance our pain away for months and months as the death of the Dox slowly sunk in.
