Tucked quietly into the 300 block of Park Avenue, next to Zhongshan Restaurant and across the street from the Ethiopian restaurant Tabor, Potung is easy to walk right past unknowingly. But if you miss it, then you're missing out on a veritable grotto of treasure. Stocked from floor to ceiling, Potung is full of many delectable and varied Asian ingredients and treats—shelves full of spices and sauces, kimchi, dried seafood, tofu, curry paste, endless types of noodles, dumplings, a decent selection of basic fresh fruits and vegetables, and more. Though it's no H-Mart or Lotte in terms of scale and selection, at least you don't have to find a way out to the county to get a good week's worth of groceries for Asian cooking. The family that runs Potung is always friendly and helpful, and if you go at just the right time as you check out, you might get to observe one of the owners delicately and fastidiously cleaning and trimming the small bundles of bok choy or snow peas before packaging them for sale.
