Pepe's, a 36-year-old institution in Mount Washington, suffers from a bit of an identity crisis—mostly because it does so many things well. It was known as Pepe's Pizza for a long time, but the new signage that came with a renovation a couple years back that opened up the once-crammed space just said "Pepe's." These days, you hear just as many people praising the place's breakfast offerings as its pizza, but we were taken aback recently when someone insisted that the place has the best fried chicken in town—we were sure they were talking about the RoFo next door. But, sure enough, under a blazing heat lamp display next to the registers are piles of golden fried chicken, sorted by part. Perfectly crispy outside and moist inside, there's no breading between you and that delicious bird. Still good for pizza, by the way.
