WBAL reporter Barry Simms looks great for his age. We had no idea until he broke down in tears on air that he was 8 years old during the city's riots in 1968. Simms grew up near Sandtown-Winchester and watched buildings burn around him following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. When anchor Stan Stovall asked about the '68 riots and Simms talked about the last time the National Guard was in his neighborhood, he broke down. Simms' sincerity and love for his neighbors really got to us. He didn't care about being on air or sticking to the news. He cared about his neighbors and the effect the new uprising had on everybody.
