After five days without a homicide in Baltimore City, Darius Taybron, a 19-year-old African-American male, was found shot repeatedly in the 2500 block of Hoffman Street in the middle of the afternoon. He died at an area hospital at 4:06
Taybron is the 23rd teenager murdered this year and the fifth in October alone.
That night, a 60-year-old African-American man was shot in the head in the 3100 block of Garrison Boulevard in Northwest Baltimore. He died at a city hospital at
Police are waiting until his family has been notified of his death to release his name.
As of Monday, Oct. 22, Baltimore City had seven more murders than at the same time last year. The city's homicide rate continues to outstrip neighboring cities. If Baltimore had Philadelphia's homicide rate, 64 fewer people would have been murdered so far this year. If it had Washington's homicide rate, 106 fewer people would have been murdered.
Arthur Holt, a 19-year-old African-American male, was arrested on Sept. 27 for the murder of Tavon Whelchel, an 18-year-old African-American male. Whelchel was shot several times in the 2100 block of West Pratt Street on June 19.

reported that Gary Latham, a 29-year-old Caucasian, was found not guilty on Oct. 16 of murdering John Sandy. All charges were dropped against a second suspect in the case, Bobby Wisner, a 31-year-old Caucasian man. Sandy, a 73-year-old Caucasian man, finished his shift as a taxi driver at 4
on April 18, 2010. He parked his car in the 3500 block of Elm Avenue just off 36th Street (aka the Avenue) in Hampden and started walking the block and a half to his home. During the walk, he was hit from behind with a tire iron and then severely beaten. He died nearly three months later, on July 13, 2010.
