The person who was shot

in the head in the 6200 block of Fairlawn Avenue on Oct. 7 was initially described by police as an adult female. She has, however, been identified as Ahjee Harrod, a 16-year-old African-American girl. Harrod is the seventh minor murdered this year.


Monday, Oct. 8

9:27 P.M.

Curt Jones, a 28-year-old African-American man, was found lying in the middle of the street in the 600 block of Dumbarton Avenue. He had been shot repeatedly in the head and body and died at an area hospital at 10:13 p.m. Jones is the second person murdered in this block in three weeks. Antoine Sellers, a 27-year-old African-American man, was shot to death there Sept. 22. This is also the third murder in Pen Lucy, a small neighborhood nestled between Guilford, Waverly, and Ednor Gardens-Lakeside.

Thursday, Oct. 11

5:24 P.M.

Merv Douglas, a 61-year-old African-American man, parked his car near his home in the 2300 block of North Charles Street. He was unloading his car and walked to his front door when he was shot several times on the busy street during rush hour. Douglas collapsed in the vestibule of his home. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died at 10:40 P.M. This is the second murder in Charles Village this year.

Friday, Oct. 12

6:45 P.M.

Also in the evening and just a few blocks northeast of where Douglas was killed, Tashawna Jones, an 18-year-old African-American female, was found near the corner of East 26th Street and Guilford Avenue, lying in a pool of blood. It was initially believed she was suffering from head trauma. She was taken to a city hospital, where it was determined she was actually shot in the head. She died there at 10:37 P.M. Jones is the 20th woman murdered this year. She is also the 22nd person murdered in the Northern police district; the third this week. Fifteen people were killed in the Northern District in all of 2011.

Sunday, Oct. 14

6:53 P.M.

Charles Fuller, a 19-year-old African-American man, was shot in the hip and back in the 3000 block of East Baltimore Street. He died at an area hospital at 8:20 P.M. Despite the uptick in female homicide victims in recent weeks, males like Fuller still make up 87 percent of those murdered in 2012, with African-American males under 30 accounting for nearly half of this year's victims.
