If you're going to open a pizza shop

in Mount Vernon all of two minutes’ walking distance from Never on Sunday, survival means being better than “good enough.” If a neighborhood customer winds up, say, back at his office trying to find the vampire bite marks on his gyro’s ($5.49 for an 8-inch) saddest tomato ever while simultaneously realizing this is mayonnaise and not tzatziki (hopefully not, anyhow) and wondering how a knife even cuts lettuce this wilted, that is bad. The whole package was weirdly bland, like almost purposefully so. We wanted to try a pizza slice, but the little display case on the counter was empty with no assurances that it would be full again anytime soon. We also got an order of seasoned fries that were, well, good enough.
