2 N. Charles St., (443) 692-6170, monaco-baltimore.com

We're betting most Baltimorons have never even noticed the old B & O Railroad building, let alone stepped foot in it, but the historic landmark is truly beautiful. It's across from the defunct Morris A. Mechanic Theater, on a block that has only recently been given life by new occupant Hotel Monaco. The main entrance is all polished marble, insanely high ceilings, and sparkly chandeliers, but scaling this lower lobby is a stunning staircase, carved out of perfectly white marble, and winding up the 50 or so feet to the actual lobby where the check-in desk, conference area, and decidedly more dubious decorations are to be found. Being on these stairs makes you feel like you're in a movie, seriously.
