Jim Henson’s son Brian directed this 1992 adaptation of Charles Dickens’ holiday workhorse populated by the Muppets’ usual suspects.
Nearly 30 years after Jeff Bridges starred as a young programmer who gets trapped inside of a computer, he returns for this sequel of the 1982 Walt Disney movie that has become a cult item more for its prescient ideas than for its cinematic experience. For
Garrett Hedlund stars as Sam, the son of Bridges’ Kevin Flynn, who has been missing since the original. Sam somehow ends up having to venture inside of a computer to search and fight for his father. Joseph Kosinski makes his feature film debut behind the camera with this update.

Spectacle maven Julie Taymor switches up the gender roles for her adaptation of Shakespeare’s grand play, with dame Helen Mirren starring as the exiled duchess Prospera, Felicity Jones as her daughter Miranda, and Djimon Hounsou as the canny Caliban. There are still images from her 1999
we haven’t been able to shake, and Peter Greenaway’s 1991
really changed the visual panache level for
adaptations, so we’re a little curious to see how this one plays out.
