Bookmakers Cocktail Club, the long-awaited restaurant and cocktail bar set to replace Federal Hill's beloved karaoke institution Nevin's, will be open for full dinner and bar service starting at 5 p.m. tonight.
The restaurant, owned by Ryan Perlberg (the man behind Rye, Stuggy's, and Willow in Fells Point), will feature a fully realized food menu created by former Fleet Street Kitchen chef Chris Amendola, who carries a résumé that will have any food fanatic fawning, having previously worked stints at Chef Sean Brock's James Beard-award-winning McCrady's and the renowned farm-to-table mecca Blue Hill at Stone Barns. And with his debut menu at Bookmaker's offering items like fried pig pieces with ranch powder, smoked bone marrow, roasted baby summer squash with green chartreuse herb broth, and grilled prawn with roasted pork belly and absinthe, we may have to make a stop in sooner rather than later.
Not to be outdone on the cocktail side (it IS in the name after all), beverage director Ryan Sparks—previously of Jack's Bistro, Of Love & Regret, and The Brewer's Art—has crafted a list of 12 unique concoctions such as The Last Word, which mixes Barr Hill raw honey gin, green Chartreuse, Luxardo maraschino, and fresh lime. And on the dark liquor side of the spectrum, The Witch's Word, a mix of Redemption rye, Strega, Barenjager, fresh lemon, and Angostura bitters, particularly piques our interest.
