BMA 100th Anniversary

Man, it seems like something or another has been under construction for so long at the BMA that Matisse himself may have still been alive the last time the whole museum was open. The American wing, and the grand front entrance, are reopening, though, just in time for the museum's 100th anniversary. There are over 850 works in the reinstallation, more than 50 of which have either never been seen before or have not been on display for a long time. But everything will be displayed differently—and even if they're not, your great-grandparents are probably dead by now anyway. For the reopening event, they've recruited our "Best Real R&B," Brooks Long, to bring together a band, which includes Wendel Patrick, Ruby Fulton (full disclosure: we play music together), and many others from different genres to write and perform songs based on pieces from the collection. Brilliant. Baltimore Museum of Art, 10 Art Museum Drive, (443) 573-1700, artbma.org, free. (Baynard Woods)
