Back in May,
City Paper
proposed budget cuts to the city's animal services. At the time, it appeared that Animal Control would lose the two drivers responsible for collecting thousands of dead animals a year. The
(BARCS) was set to lose $120,000, the equivalent of four employees. The city's contentious budget process has come to an end and the many new revenue measures that have been instituted—ranging from
to new fines for public drunkenness—will help bridge the projected $121 million gap. That's good news for a number of city agencies and animal services are no exception. According to Health Department spokesman Brian Schleter, the driver positions at Animal Control have been restored. BARCS Acting Director Debbie Rahl says BARCS will not be losing any funding this year either.
