Gov. Martin O'Malley and the
wants your help in supporting the arts in Maryland. According to an Aug. 7
, O'Malley and MSAC have launched Imagine Maryland, a "community collaboration and cultural planning initiative to identify opportunities and ideas that will enhance the role of the arts in Maryland." According to the web site:
The survey asks the expected demographic info--ZIP code, gender, household income, age, etc.--before moving onto more arts-related questions, inquiring about what you do and whether you earn any income with art, what types of arts events you frequent, and how you obtain information about the arts. And it does ask questions about the role of Maryland government in the arts.
No idea how any of this is going to play out in terms of policy or funding, but it's much better PR than O'Malley's former
, when the then mayor would spout some piffle about Richard Florida's so-called "creative class," field questions from representatives of local arts organizations, and tell everybody there's not more money for local arts with a smile.
