Attention downtown denizens: A new restaurant is opening up right in the heart of the city. B&O American Brasserie (2 N. Charles St., 443-692-6172) starts serving breakfast and dinner this Thursday, July 30; lunch service begins Aug. 17. Chef E. Michael Reidt, who was named one of the nation's best new chefs by Food & Wine magazine in 2001, will helm the kitchen. Reidt is moving to Baltimore for the job after garnering attention in Boston, Miami, and Santa Barbara, Calif.
B&O will, fittingly, be located in the former Baltimore & Ohio Railroad headquarters. The restaurant promises to be "an approachable American brasserie with a seasonally changing menu." It will also have bars, both of the alcohol and raw varieties, and a brick oven for flatbreads.
B&O also boasts that it is environmentally friendly, with an in-house water purification system so it doesn't have to serve bottled water, composting, and recycling.
