," and, frankly, that should probably be enough for him, but we can't help but want to see a local boy make good on the national stage. We asked Jay Martian (yes, like the space creature), a long-time friend and fellow musician who now bakes pies in the Canton shop, to talk up his pal. "Rodney started out selling pies at shows when the T-shirts and CDs weren't selling, to put gas in his car to get to the next show," Martian points out. "People can tell he's not a phony and they climb on board with that." Henry founded DDP in Federal Hill over ten years ago, and, though the Fed Hill shop closed in 2011, now has outlets in Canton, D.C., and Detroit. Today, Martian is making a savory Polka pie, filled with Polish kielbasa, sauerkraut, potatoes and cheese. Not exactly what you think of when you think of eating on a 100 degree day. But there's also Key lime, fresh from the oven. "The crust is the hardest part," says Martian. "Once you have the crust down you can fill it with just about anything." Martian says he eats his share of pie, and dangerous is the key word: "I've gained a good 15 pounds since I worked here." NOTE: You can vote up to 10 times per day!
