[caption id="attachment_10689" align="alignleft" width="160" caption="Britt Olsen-Ecker will portray Clara Barton. PHOTO COURTESY MdHS"][/caption] The Maryland Historical Society will hold an in-depth Civil War event highlighting the ladies this weekend. Participants will see live history performances by the Historical Society Players and take guided tours with Clara Barton and Harriet Tubman, or at least convincing stand-ins. A lecture on the fashions of the period, dramatic readings from period diaries, a performance by Baltimore School for the Arts students of scenes from a play on the Civil War, and a special tour of Divided Voices: Maryland in the Civil War fill the rest of the bill. The Baltimore AppliquĆ© Society—who knew?—will also hold hands-on demonstrations to teach attendees how to appliquĆ©, and will use replicas of period fabric to discuss sewing, fabrics, and techniques. To register, visit mdhs.org, email events@mdhs.org, or call (410) 685-3750, ext. 337.  Weekend admission prices are $10 per person or $25 per family. The events take place on Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2 from noon to 5 p.m. both days.
