One of the biggest challenges for any stage director is shepherding a new play by a young writer to a successful production. Center Stage's artistic director Kwame Kwei-Armah welcomes such challenges. He did it with Katori Hall's "The Mountaintop" in the 2012-2013 season and he did it again this past season with Marcus Gardley's "Dance of the Holy Ghosts." The latter show was especially daunting, because one actor had to make the father figure both charismatic and cruel and another actor had to play the son at every age from elementary school student to college professor. Kwei-Armah enabled the cast to pull off this balancing act and introduced us to a powerful new play.
