First of all, "men" was def not shorthand for "people," right? I mean, ladies couldn't even vote, OK? How incredibly primitive, eh? But it was just how things were, right? If you could dig up a bunch of those Founding Fathers and show them around here in 2015, you'd really like to Believe at least a few of 'em would say, "Oh, right! PEOPLE! That means EVERYBODY is equal, no matter who they are, and ALL colors, huh? Wow, how did we miss that? Oh, right, because we were the guys in charge, and all we wanted was to get King George off our back. Everything else was awesome. Well, you know, for us, anyway. Just to be clear, that means there's no owning Human Beings like they are property, right?"
