Murder Ink 12/14/16: 3 murders this week; 299 murders this year

Police captured the man they say killed a 73-year-old Hungarian immigrant on Pulaski Highway on December 2. Three more homicides bring Baltimore to the brink of its second year of at least 300.

Friday, December 9

9:45 p.m. Keith Ramsey, a 32-year-old African-American man, was on the 2600 block of Greenmount Avenue when someone shot him multiple times, hitting him in the body. Police and medics found him there, and he died at a hospital shortly afterward. Ramsey had lived on the 700 block of Exeter Hall Avenue, according to police.

11:58 p.m. Ricardo Grimes, a 37-year-old African-American man, was shot in the head on the 1100 block of Curtain Avenue. Police found him there after receiving a call for an "unresponsive person." Grimes was dead. His was the ninth murder in the East Baltimore-Midway neighborhood this year.

Saturday, December 10

1:21 a.m. Gregory Riddick, a 26-year-old African-American man, was shot on the 2700 block of Harford Road, in the Coldstream Homestead Montebello neighborhood. A patrol officer heard the shots and rushed toward them. He found the Riddick, who police believe walked into the road after being shot, where he was then hit by a car, which sped away. Riddick died.

The three men who police found dead in a house on the 900 block of Bennett Place have been identified. They were Antonio Davis, a 23-year-old African-American man of the 1100 block of Stricker Street; Howard Banks, a 45-year-old African-American man of the 1300 block of Washington Blvd.; and Thomas Carter, a 42-year-old African-American man who lived on the 2100 block of Barclay Street.

On December 7, police arrested Christopher Straham, who they had two days before named "Public Enemy Number 1." Straham was charged with murder, armed robbery, and other crimes in connection with the daytime stabbing of a homeless man on Pulaski Highway on December 2. The attack was caught on video. Police say the victim was a Hungarian immigrant whose family they had not yet notified as of press time, so his name was not publicly released.
