Two of the men gunned-down this week were killed within earshot of elementary schools that were in session. Another victim was 17 years old. Last year by this date there were 276 murders.

Tuesday, October 18


2:25 p.m. Major Anderson, a 27-year-old African-American man, was on the 2000 block of Cecil Avenue near Cecil Elementary School when someone shot him in the head. He died soon after at a hospital.

Wednesday, October 19

11:25 a.m. Shannon Butler, a 29-year-old African-American man, was on the 4700 block of Alhambra Avenue in Wilson Park, about three blocks from Guilford Elementary School, when someone shot him multiple times. Medics got him to a hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Friday, October 21

9:55 p.m. Martin Ibarra, a 35-year-old Caucasian man, was on the 1400 block of Ramsay Street in Mount Clare when someone shot him multiple times. He died soon after at Shock Trauma. A 28-year-old woman was also hit and was reported to be in serious but stable condition. Ibarra had resided on the 400 block of S. Gilmor Street, a few blocks west of where he was killed.

Saturday, October 22

12:53 p.m. on September 26, Tony Williams, a 21-year-old African-American man, was on the 3500 block of Woodland Avenue in Central Park Heights when someone shot him in the legs and back. He was hospitalized and died from his injuries on Oct. 22. Police have charged Charles McEachin with the shooting and are planning to upgrade the charge to murder. This is the fifth homicide this year in Central Park Heights.

10:10 p.m. D'kai Vanlandingham, a 17-year-old boy, was on the 3400 block of Juneway when someone shot him. He was a block from his home. Police came and medics took him to a hospital, where he died. Police have no witnesses at this time.


The person killed on Oct. 16 on the 300 block of Collins Avenue has been identified. He was Phillip Moore, a 35-year-old African-American man, of the 2100 block of Hollins Street.
