Last week City Paper missed a murder. Jamel Bishop, a 33-year-old African American man, was shot on the 5400 block of Nelson Avenue on April 8 at about 1:44 p.m. Police originally reported the incident as occurring on the 5400 block of Jonquil Avenue in the Arlington neighborhood, and said a 33-year-old man had received "non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the torso." Four days later they identified the man as a murder victim without further comment. Police also announced the names of three other recent murder victims. On April 7, Antowan Baker, a 33-year-old African-American man, of the 200 block of Mason Court, was shot to death on the 2100 block of Pratt Street. Jerry Cook, a 24-year-old African-American man, was shot to death on the 3000 block of Chelsea Terrace on April 8. Ronald Davis, a 50-year-old African-American man, was killed on the 1400 block of Aisquith Street on the same day.
