After two murders on Tuesday, the city calmed down considerably. This week, there were six non-fatal shootings; police also made five gun-related arrests.
Tuesday, March 22
3:57 p.m. Kevon Phillips, a 24-year-old African-American man, was on the 400 block of N. Bouldin Street in the Ellwood Park/ Monument neighborhood when someone shot him multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police say Phillips resided on the 2600 block of Ashland Avenue.
9:50 p.m. Less than two miles away and six hours after the last murder, near the 200 block of N. Bond Street in the Dunbar-Broadway neighborhood, Shelby Miller, a 29-year-old African-American man, was shot to death. He made it to the hospital, but died shortly after that. Miller resided on the 4800 block of Aberdeen Avenue, about four miles from where he fell.
Thursday, March 24
3:15 p.m. Maikeli Hawkins, a 40-year-old African-American man, was on the 700 block of Augusta Avenue in Edmondson Village when someone shot him and a woman. Hawkins was hit multiple times and died. The woman was hit in the leg and is expected to live. Hawkins lived about three blocks north of where he was killed.
Sunday, March 27
4:20 a.m. As Easter Sunday dawned, police found a man, who they have not yet identified publicly, on the 1300 block of Boyd Street in the Union Square neighborhood. He had been shot. Fire fighter medics pronounced him dead.
