A 26-year-old man's bullet-riddled body was discovered in a South Side gangway, Chicago police said this morning.
He was identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Alejandro Betancourt, of the 2800 block of West Fillmore Street.
Officers responding to a "shots fired" call found Betancourt lying in the 7200 block of South Wabash Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood at about 7:56 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including one wound to his left shoulder and two in his left thigh, police said.
Neighbors told police they heard four or five gunshots, but didn't see the gunman flee the scene, police said.
Police said they weren't immediately sure of the motive, adding that they didn't know why Betancourt, who lives on the city's West Side, was in the neighborhood.
No arrests have been made as of this morning. Calumet Area detectives were handling the investigation.
