Mike Epps

Mike Epps has played some memorable characters in his career, but this year he went a different route. The comedian and actor, an Indianapolis native, took on the role of ambassador for Super Bowl weekend, calling on a host of celebrity friends happy to come to town to do it up the way Epps does with his comedy, and over-the-top antics. His ambassadorship is over, so Epps is back on a more familiar stage, stand-up, with his "I'm Still Standing Tour." Oh yeah, someone's mama, big girls and someone's mama who's a big girl will be talked about. Why go: Epps can't help but bring up the level of silliness as the simple-minded wannabe player Day-Day from the "Friday" movies and the clueless con man from (insert a number of movies here) seep out of his stand-up. He's just being himself. Reconsider: If you wanted to sit around listening to a goofball rant about everything under the sun as it pops in his head, you have your own dysfunctional relatives for that. Details: 7 and 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Arie Crown Theater, McCormick Place, 2301 S. Lake Shore Drive; $41-$75; 800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com
