"Aftermath" ★★★½

There have been far slicker jukebox shows than "Aftermath," a new, storefront musical from writer-director Ronan Marra that tells the story of the dreamy, brilliant Brian Jones and the birth of The Rolling Stones. But I can't think of another show that has so caught the essence of an iconic rock group at its youthful moment of destiny. Thanks in no small part to Nick Vidal's Jagger, which captures the schoolboy behind the swagger, and Aaron Snook's deliciously uncompromising Jones, this fabulous, off-Loop show is back in a fall run. Through Jan. 23 at Signal Ensemble Theatre, 1802 West Berenice Ave.; $20 at 773-347-1350 and signalensemble.com
