July 13 was a very special event for 100 members and friends of Friendship United Methodist Church. That evening, 37 of them stood on the field at Prince George's Stadium dressed in red, white and blue and beautifully sang the national anthem prior to the Baysox vs. Richmond baseball game.
Led by FUMC Sanctuary Choir Director Sandy Griese, who teaches music at Barstow Elementary, the ensemble - one of the largest to sing for Baysox fans - included seasoned youth and adult choir members as well as first-time amateurs from the church. The event was organized by Tina Wilkerson, and proceeds went to the church's building fund.
Church members and friends stayed to watch the Baysox deliver a 13-0 victory, so the team has a perfect record when folks from Friendship Methodist sing the anthem. Post-game fireworks were exciting.
