PAROLE - An update on the readiness of county schools for the new school year will be presented Wednesday during a meeting of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education.
The presentation will include information about new programs and curriculum initiatives, including staffing levels, the status of school construction projects, and the ongoing implementation of the Common Core State Standards.
The meeting will also be the first for Mamie J. Perkins, who began work this month as interim superintendent after the resignation of Kevin M. Maxwell.
The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a vote to go into a closed session to discuss confidential matters. It's expected to open to the public at 10 a.m. in the boardroom of the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis.
The new school year starts on Aug. 26, with students in first through fifth, sixth and ninth grades beginning classes. More than 79,000 students are projected to attend county schools in the coming school year.
