The Rally Killers probably killed a lot of rallies over the course of the regular season and in their five-game sweep in the postseason tournament which was played at the Sports Complex July 10 and July 17.
Westminster resident Bill Chaffman had a special reason for wanting to win this year's Carroll County Men's Softball League's Tuesday Night Division championship.
This year, the Unnatural Disasters co-ed softball team broke its dreary playoff streak. One hot Saturday back in mid-August, UD swept four playoff games to win the Carroll County Co-Ed Softball League Lower Division title for the first time.
The Winfield Sting 18-under softball team played one of the roughest schedules around. Yet, the local girls still went 21-11, a .656 winning percentage. And they managed a 10-game winning streak at one point.
The Maryland Hoopmasters AAU 16-under team had a very good summer season, so its winning performance in Atlanta was no surprise. It was second in Hoopmasters’ annual Caviness Classic which was held May 4-5 at Liberty High. It also finished second in early June’s Maryland Flames Tournament in Boyds.
Can the Westminster Vipers repeat their comeback of the Summer Clash tournament? Coach Erin Brilhart believes they can, and he feels the pitching will be OK. However, he says the hitting and fielding, in particular, have to improve.
