WasteZero is the company working with the town on the pay-as-you-throw pilot trash program. The program lasts 34 weeks, with the last trash pick-up occurring June 24, 2019.
“As we expected, we had good compliance with the majority of households using the special orange bags, only about 10 percent were not in compliance, which is typical for the first day of a new program,” Forrester said.
“All material was picked up, but we left ‘oops’ stickers on the doors or trash barrels of households who did not use the orange bags. These stickers reminded the home that the program has started, where to get more information, and that next week they must use the official orange bags to receive curbside trash pick-up.”
Forrester said there were a few homes with multiple orange bags but no recycling. But, she said, the best way to reduce the need for multiple trash bags is to recycle.
There is no limit to the amount of material households can place out for recycling, Forrester said. Recyclable items should not be placed in orange bags. Residents can contact New Windsor Town Hall at 410-635-6575 to request a recycling bin.
