The annual Rummage Sale is coming this August at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Community Church.

The community is welcome to the Rummage Sale where they will be able to buy great items and at the same time raise funds for different organizations in the community on Wednesday, Aug. 15, Thursday, Aug. 16, and Friday, Aug. 17.

Joanne Hungerman, one of the coordinators of this event, explained, in an email interview, that the attendees will have the opportunity to buy a variety of items, including jewelry, household goods, purses, shoes, holiday decorations, furniture and adult and children fashions.

Hungerman stated that the items will be separated in different rooms. They will have 10 rooms, with six tables in each of them and items neatly stacked on the floor. There will also be furniture and men’s and ladies’ clothing located in the main hall.

She explained that throughout the years, they have been able to make donations to many people and organizations in the community with the funds raised at the sale.

Hungerman explained that the purpose of the sale is to give back to the community. The funds raised will be donated to the Carroll Food Sunday, Carroll Hospice, Shepherd’s Staff, and Samaritan Woman.

Snookie Judge, one of the original organizers of the sale, also explained that the purpose of this event is to help everyone in the community despite a situation they may be going through.

“One of my fondest stories is when a family came in whose husband hand been injured in Iraq and were in need of a bed. They were sleeping on the floor until his disability check arrived. We were able to supply this family with beds,” explained Judge. “We are happy to say, we help everyone in need.”

Also, the community is encouraged to donate clothes and other items for the sale.

Lastly, when the sale is finished, the donations continue. At the end of the last day, a truck from Greendrop is filled with what did not sell, and is donated to American Red Cross, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the National Federation of the Blind and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Last year, Greendrop filled its truck with over 300 boxes of things that remained.

The Rummage Sale hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 15 and Aug. 16 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 17.

This event is brought to you by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 2300.

The sale will be held at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church located at 915 Liberty Road., Eldersburg.
