Under Armour said Tuesday it is partnering with USA Boxing to outfit team members. The arrangement is effective immediately -- American boxers wore the Baltimore-based company’s uniforms and footwear last weekend at the Pan American Games in Canada.
The deal extends through the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Terms were not disclosed. Everlast provided the team apparel and footwear for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
As an Olympic sport, boxing is a natural for Under Armour, which is making an international push. The 2012 Olympics were the first to include women’s boxing as an official sport.
Baltimore will host a USA Boxing qualifying event on Sept. 7-12.
“Both our organizations exist to make all athletes better,” Peter Murray, Under Armour’s vice president for global brand & sports marketing said in a prepared statement. “We are honored to support USA Boxing’s incredible legacy of building champions on the Olympic stage and beyond, as we work together to help strengthen the sport in the U.S. grassroots to elite levels.”
