Elkridge fire

At approximately 12:00 PM on August 21, 2017, a total of 65 firefighters and paramedics from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS), along with the Baltimore County Fire Department, and the Anne Arundel Fire Department, were dispatched for an apartment fire in the 6200 block of Greenfield Road in Elkridge. Upon arrival, crews encountered fire on a fourth floor balcony of the apartment complex. The bulk of the fire remained on the exterior portion of the apartment with some extension into the interior and the roof. The fire was knocked around 12:15 PM. Units continued to check for extension and brought the fire under control. Other apartments in the building were impacted by residual smoke. Residents evacuated prior to fire department arrival. No injuries to civilians or firefighters have been reported. Investigators from HCDFRS’ Office of the Fire Marshal are on location and are working to determine origin and cause of the incident. Initial reports indicate that a sprinkler head between the balcony and apartment living area had been activated, keeping the fire in check and limiting fire damage. - Original Credit: HCDFRS
