No. 5: Roland Park County School

The first fully accredited independent school for girls in Baltimore, Roland Park Country School has always taken its role educating and inspiring young women seriously. But its long history has not been an impediment to innovation. This year, the K-12 school announced plans to open the Lillie May Carroll Jackson School. The charter school will prepare girls in grades five through eight for the most rigorous Baltimore high schools and offer an "experiential learning community." Administrators believe the new school, named for the pioneer of the civil rights movement in Baltimore, honors the past while being a harbinger of the future.
