Wegmans Food Markets has begun hiring for 325 part-time positions at its new location in Owings Mills, scheduled to open Sept. 18.
The grocery chain began hiring for roughly 100 full-time jobs in February for the store located in Foundry Row, a retail and office complex being developed by the Owings Mills firm Greenberg Gibbons at Reisterstown and Painters Mill roads. Some full-time positions remain available.
In all, the 109,000-square-foot store will employ 475 people, 425 of whom will be hired locally, Wegmans said.
The company would not disclose starting wages, but a spokeswoman said in an email that its pay and benefits are competitive and the "entire compensation package is better than that of our competitors," citing in particular its employee scholarship program.
"We're looking for friendly, outgoing people who take pride in their work and enjoy being part of a team," said Owings Mills store manager Matt LePore, in a statement. "Our training provides the rest, and every position here offers opportunities for career growth."
LePore started as a part-time cashier in high school and used the tuition assistance to attend college. Under the program, employees who meet certain academic and employment criteria may receive up to $1,500 per year for part-timers and $2,200 a year for full-time workers.
Headquartered in Rochester, N.Y., Wegmans has seven locations in Maryland, including in Hunt Valley and Columbia.
Applicants may apply online at wegmans.com/careers or by calling 1-877-WEGMANS (934-6267). The company said interviews are conducted by appointment only and applications are neither available nor accepted at the construction site.
