Baltimore workers average 47-hour work week, 9th-longest in U.S.

The Baltimore work force labors through one of the longest work weeks in the United States, according to a report released this week by New York City's comptroller.

The report, presented by NYC's Scott M. Stringer and based upon 2013 data, showed that New Yorkers worked the longest week — just over 49 hours, including commute time — while Baltimore came in 9th on the list.

Baltimore workers spend 42.34 hours at work per week, and 4.51 hours on the road each week, for a total of 47.25 hours dedicated to work each week, the report said. Employees of Baltimore companies battle the third-longest commute time.

New Yorkers spent the most time traveling to and from work, at 6.18 hours, while employees of companies in San Francisco spent the most time at work, with an average of 44.01 hours each week, the report said.

Just an hour south, Washington D.C. workers, who came in the third-highest on the list, spend more time at work — 43.5 hours per week — but slightly less time on the road — 4.49 hours per week — than workers in Baltimore.
