The Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland is warning consumers seeking news and photos of the death of Osama bin Laden online about malicious websites that will infect their computer with a virus.
The BBB says Internet security firm of Kaspersky Labs reported that a fake video on Facebook claiming to show the death of bin Laden actually tricks people into inputting a malicious URL into their browser.
And those free offers for airplane ticket and opportunities to celebrate Osama’s death on Facebook? Kaspersky says those lead to more malicious, virus-loading Facebook pages.
Even the FBI, says the BBB, is warning against clicking on bin Laden-themed links on Twitter and elsewhere that steer consumers to websites with viruses and phishing schemes.
