Now that Health Care for the Homeless has moved to a new headquarters on the east side of downtown Baltimore, the Baltimore Development Corp. is helping the agency sell its former location on the west side.

The quasi-public development corporation announced Monday that it has set June 7 as the deadline for proposals from developers interested in redeveloping the former Health Care for the Homeless building at 111 Park Ave. The 16,188-square-foot building was constructed as a train station and also served as a branch of Equitable Bank.

The development agency is also seeking proposals for five city-owned properties on the same block: 142 and 144 W. Fayette Street and 102, 104 and 106 North Liberty Street. It intends to award all six properties to one team as one parcel for a mixed-use development, which could include housing, offices, retail space or a hotel.

Health Care for the Homeless, which moved this winter to a new building at the Fallsway and Gay Street, is seeking a minimum offer of $1 million for its four-story-plus-basement Park Avenue property. BDC officials say they will only consider offers to rehab the building, not raze it. The agency also says it wants to see proposals that are consistent with the city's Strategic Plan for the west side, generate activity at street level and don't rely on public funding assistance or subsidies. Any proposal also must be acceptable to the Maryland Historic Trust.
